Itapevi launches October Pink & November Blue campaign

The City of Itapevi launches, next Saturday (1st), the Campaign Pink October & Blue November – Together in Cancer Prevention. The unified action aims to raise awareness of women about breast cancer and men about prostate cancer.

The event is coordinated by the Municipal Health Department and the initiative to publicize the two campaigns simultaneously is to optimize the mobilization of citizens and professionals in a period of greater awareness of the issues, in addition to intensifying the performance of mammography and pap smears for women and PSA blood test for men.

Therefore, from October 1st to October 31st, women over 50 must go to the basic health units and request a mammography exam, which can be scheduled directly with the UBS nursing team. For women under 50, the exam should be requested if there is unexplained breast enlargement, change in nipple sensitivity, lump in the breast or elimination of any liquid through the nipple, in addition to a family history of cases of the disease.

Women who have or have had an active sexual life, especially those aged between 25 and 59, should also look for the UBSs to ask the nursing team to perform a Pap smear. Initially this exam should be done annually, after two consecutive exams (with an interval of one year) presenting normal results, the preventive exam can be done every three years.

HPV vaccine for girls

During this period, girls from 9 to 14 years of age should also seek health care facilities, accompanied by a guardian, to be vaccinated against HPV, a virus that can cause cancer.

Quick Test

The UBSs are also prepared to carry out rapid tests for HIV and syphilis. The test takes just 30 minutes and the entire process is kept confidential. For HIV positive cases, the patient starts free treatment at the SAE (Specialized Assistance Service). Syphilis cases are treated at the primary health care unit closest to the patient.

Blue november

From November 1st to 30th, health facilities will carry out clinical analysis of PSA blood in men over 50 years old. If the result indicates any changes, this patient will be referred to a urologist, who will perform a more detailed examination to assess the clinical picture.

The exam must be requested from the nearest UBS nursing team.

Men aged 45 and over should also be tested if they have a family history of cancer: father, grandfather or brother who had this disease before age 60.

The health unit should also be sought if the man, of any age, has difficulty urinating; delay in starting and finishing urinating, blood in the urine, decreased flow of urine, need to urinate more often during the day or night.

Speeches

During the months of October and November, teams from the NEPHS (Nucleus of Permanent Education and Humanization in Health) will be giving educational lectures on the prevention of breast cancer, cervical cancer and prostate cancer in all basic health units in Itapevi. .

The UBSs are open from Monday to Friday, from 7 am to 4 pm. In the health units of Suburbano and Vitápolis, the service is extended until 19:00.
